From March 2010 to December 2012, PITCO, as a subcontractor to International Resources Group (IRG), implemented the USAID-funded Tubewell Efficiency Improvement Program (TWEIP) across Punjab, Sindh, and KPK provinces in Pakistan. The project aimed to replace 2,492 inefficient tubewells, resulting in energy savings of 16.55 MW. TWEIP engaged over 230,000 farmers through effective mobilization strategies, resulting in 12,000 enrollments and 2,368 tubewell replacements, achieving energy savings of 16.09 MW.
PITCO’s responsibilities included implementing ISO 9906e standard for energy efficiency testing of pump sets, testing models from over 50 companies, and shortlisting nine suppliers for the subsidy program. PITCO managed nationwide media campaigns, conducted workshops to mobilize farmers, and developed standard operating procedures for grant programs. The project also involved pre- and post-installation energy audits, vendor qualification, grant management, and the development of a customized application and web portal for program management and tracking. PITCO ensured compliance with program requirements through a comprehensive quality control system and monitored energy savings through GIS-enabled audits.
