PITCO, as the primary subcontractor to International Resources Group (IRG), conducted an operational audit for MEPCO from October 2010 to September 2015 under the USAID-funded Power Distribution Program. The audit aimed to improve MEPCO’s financial, commercial, and technical standing by evaluating performance across various areas, including governance, operational, financial, human resources, communications, and customer service. The project covered multiple locations within Pakistan, including Multan, Bahawalnagar, Pakpattan, Rahim Yar Khan, Khanewal, Sahiwal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Bahawalpur, Lodhran, Layyah, Vehari, and Muzaffargarh.
The audit involved evaluating Transmission and Distribution (T&D) losses, with the sample including 30 substations, 183 feeders, and 39089 transformers. Our team conducted feeder mapping surveys, GIS mapping, and load flow analysis using SynerGEE software to calculate technical losses. PITCO performed HT and LT load flow analysis to segregate technical and non-technical losses and developed HT and LT feeder rehabilitation proposals. The audit identified reasons for line losses and provided recommendations for improving transmission issues, distribution system management, and segregation of system losses, aiming to enhance overall operational efficiency and performance.
