PITCO, along with International Resources Group (IRG), undertook the GIS mapping of Gujranwala Electric Power Company’s (GEPCO) distribution network from October 2010 to September 2015 under the USAID-funded Power Distribution Program. The project aimed to create a geometric network for asset management and load flow analysis, covering more than 3,200 kilometers of 11 kV HT and 0.415 kV LT lines and 635 transformers. The pole-to-pole mapping included recording all assets on the network, such as substations, distribution transformers, conductors, poles, and service connections, to facilitate effective decision-making by authorities.
The project involved a detailed GIS survey and mapping of electrical consumers and network assets, including the identification of all consumers and their service connections. The GIS data was used to develop applications demonstrating various solutions associated with GIS, such as distribution network setup, load management, customer information, asset management, billing, and customer services. The project also included HT and LT load flow analysis to segregate technical and non-technical losses and develop feeder rehabilitation proposals. The data collected was processed and exported to load flow analysis software, enabling accurate analysis and recommendations for improving network efficiency and reducing losses.
