Energy Audits for Industrial Motor Replacement Program

Client:

United States Agency for International Development (USAID)

From May 2012 to September 2014, PITCO, as a subcontractor to International Resources Group (IRG), conducted energy audits for the Industrial Motor Replacement Program across Pakistan, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The project aimed to replace inefficient motors and variable frequency drives (VFDs) in various industries. The initiative was expected to achieve energy savings of 8.01 MW through operational efficiency improvements in the industrial sector.

The project involved conducting over 1500 pre-implementation and 300 post-implementation audits across industries such as textiles, cement, sugar, and chemicals. Our team identified inefficient motors and recommended replacements with energy-efficient models. Services included vendor qualification, market surveys, standardization of energy-efficient pumps, motor testing, and development of a comprehensive quality control system. The project also included grant management, recovery, and destruction of old motors, and the implementation of an Environmental Mitigation and Monitoring Plan (EMMP). Post-replacement energy audits measured the efficiency improvements and calculated the actual energy savings achieved.
