PITCO, as a sub-contractor to DESL, conducted an energy audit and cleaner production assessment for Artistic Fabrics & Industries Denim Div.-I in Karachi, Pakistan, from November 2018 to October 2019. The project, funded by IFC, aimed to identify opportunities for investing in advanced technologies and adopting global best practices in the operation process and environmental performance. The assessment process focused on developing a continuous management system for water, energy, and chemicals using the PaCT Advantage tool.
The project involved assessing the current usage of water, energy, chemicals, and wastewater discharge in the factory. Our team identified saving opportunities for delivering water and energy more efficiently and less wastefully. PITCO developed various options and investment plans to reduce consumption and improve ETP and WTP performance. Services included a pre-assessment questionnaire, energy consumption analysis, chemical use calculation, and waste management practices. Workshops were organized to train factory personnel on the cleaner production methodology. Baseline assessments and on-spot testing were conducted, and CP teams were formed. Detailed energy and water assessment reports were prepared, and implementation support was provided. Proposed interventions included installing energy-efficient equipment, EMS implementation, and waste heat recovery.
