PITCO, as part of an international team with Development Environergy Services Ltd. (DESL), conducted an energy audit and cleaner production assessment for Indigo Textile (Pvt) Ltd. in Karachi, Pakistan, from October 2018 to September 2019. This project aimed to identify opportunities for investing in advanced technologies and adopting global best practices in the operation process and environmental performance. The in-depth assessment process focused on developing an effective and continuous management system for water, energy, and chemicals using a self-diagnostic tool called PaCT Advantage.
The project involved assessing current usage of water, energy, chemicals, and wastewater discharge in the factory. Our team identified saving opportunities for delivering water and energy more efficiently and less wastefully. PITCO developed various options and investment plans to reduce consumption and improve effluent treatment plant (ETP) and water treatment plant (WTP) performance. The services included a pre-assessment questionnaire, energy consumption analysis, calculation of chemical use, and waste management practices. Our team organized workshops, conducted baseline assessments, formed cleaner production (CP) teams, and developed action plans. The project proposed interventions such as installing energy-efficient equipment, implementing energy management systems (EMS), and waste heat recovery.
