From January 2014 to September 2015, PITCO, under the USAID-funded Power Distribution Program, provided technical assistance to implement Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) systems across Pakistan. The project involved deploying Meter Data Collection (MDC) systems for 24,000 metering points, including AMRs on distribution transformers, commercial, industrial, and residential meters. The initiative aimed to improve the financial, commercial, and technical standing of the nine government-owned electric power distribution companies (DISCOs).
The services included system design, AMI technology assessment, tendering and procurement advisory, and bids evaluations for AMI systems and telecom services. Our team monitored communication processes, developed procedures for energy data sharing, supervised installation, commissioning, and testing of the complete system, and conducted UAT for system acceptance. PITCO also designed the AMR head-end system, provided remote access to DISCOs, and ensured secure communication on the AMR meters.
